Mr. Chen, I now have read Sounds of the River and Colors of the Mountain twice and I am always left with the feeling of wanting more. I would love to know how your trip to America went and what you thought when you got here, how did you survive and pay for some of your tution that Bob couldn’t. I would love for you to write a continuation. Best Regard,
Karen De La Cruz
Mr. Chen words cannot describe how inspired i am at this point. I will be attending Sam Houston state university and i’m so glad that the school chose such a magnificent book for incoming freshman. i can truly say that all the doubts i had about going to college have ceased and i’m so thankful for such an inspirational journey in China’s Son. Thanks for the adventure
Your book China’s Son is required reading for freshman students at Sam Houston State University. I just finished reading it and found it very inspiring. It seems to have put every trial i have gone through in a new perspective. I just wanted to thank you for your contributions to the world by telling your amazing story so thank you.
Heard you speak at Rockford College and purchased “Brothers.” What a wonderful book. I was inspired to learn more about China and came across a masterpiece historical book, “Out of Mao’s Shadow” by Philip P. Pan. Perfect complement to enhance understanding of that period of history!
Dear Mr. Chen,
Last summer I read your book “Brothers” and fell in love with it. I sat all day and night reading until I could get to the end. After finishing it, I kept thinking about the two brothers and how you cleverly plotted this story! I LOVED IT!
This summer, I just finished your boob Colors of the Mountain. It touched me and brought me to tears when you passed your college entrance exam! Inspired me to continue my studies and give my own parents a better future. I am going on to read the sequel, Sounds of the River!
I’m sorry this is so long, but I would be so happy if I could just meet you >w<
Thank you for creating such brilliant books!! ^^
I have been meaning for years to read your many books, as you are something of a local celebrity here in the Hudson Valley (and beyond, I’m sure). I finally got around to reading “Colors of the Mountain”, and it exceeded my expectations! I, too, was born in 1962, so it was interesting to compare some of the events in your book to my own life. For example, when you and Dia broke into school so you could study, I couldn’t imagine a similar situation taking place in my school! However, I found the book so inspirational that I have recommended it to my mother and my children. I hope the sequel reveals a bit more about your family–especially Jin. I learned from your interview at Southern Florida that your mother is living with you. I am so happy that you were able to provide for your family and I hope that they are all doing well.
Forgive me for such a long post–thank you for sharing your life with the world.
